How long is the Race? The Race is 5K or 3.1 miles. We also offer a Celebration Walk for individuals and breast cancer survivors that will take place before the 5K.
Will the Race be canceled if it rains on Race Day?
This event will occur Rain or Shine. We reserve the right to cancel in extreme circumstances. In that event, your entry fee will be used as a donation to the Komen Central Georgia Race for the Cure®.
Do children have to pay to participate in the Race? Yes, if the child wants to be recognized as a Race participant and receive a bib and small Race T-shirt, he must be registered for the Race. Children under 18 may not participate unless they are registered and have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
What else is available for children if they don’t want to participate in the Race? The Kids for the Cure® Festival area will have lots of fun activities for kids 10 and under including: face painting, coloring, games, a playground and the Kids for the Cure Parade. The kids will also lead the Celebration Walk participants through the first portion of the course. The $12 fee per child includes registration and a Kids for the Cure® t-shirt. (The first 200 participants are guaranteed a t-shirt - youth sizes XS-S-M-L.)
Are men allowed to run or walk in the Race? Yes. All men, women and children are invited and encouraged to participate in the Komen Central Georgia Race for the Cure® to help us fulfill our mission to eradicate breast cancer.
Do I have to collect pledge money in order to participate in the Race? While
you are not required to collect pledge money to participate in the
Race, we encourage everyone to raise as much as you can to increase our
contribution to the fight against breast cancer in Central Georgia. If every participant collected just $100 in
pledges, we would raise more than $300,000!
Can I push a stroller during the Race? Yes, but strollers are encouraged to participate in the Celebration Walk event rather than the 5K.
Can I bring my dog to run with me? For the safety of all participants, our insurance company requests that pets not be allowed on the course.
Can I use in-line skates or a skateboard? In-line skates and skateboards are not permitted in this event.
How much of my registration fee goes to finding a cure for breast cancer? A
small portion of your registration fee is used to offset the cost of
producing the Race, which is why pledging is so important. Susan G. Komen for the Cure is unique in that of all the net funds raised through the
Race, up to 75 percent is dedicated to outreach and awareness programs
right here in Central Georgia. The remaining 25 percent supports
national breast cancer research to find a cure.
What portion of my registration fee is tax deductible? None.
The IRS does not allow deductions when you receive items of value for
the registration fee. Donations and Pledges ARE tax deductible.
Can I participate as a survivor in honor of my mother who passed away from breast cancer two years ago? No,
participants may only register as a survivor if they themselves have
been diagnosed with breast cancer and they wish to be recognized as a
breast cancer survivor by wearing a pink bib and pink T-shirt. If
you would like to participate in celebration of a breast cancer survivor
or in memory of someone who has lost the battle against breast cancer,
please wear a “in Memory of” or “in Celebration of” back sign which are
available at the Race free of charge. This is a great way to honor a
breast cancer survivor with a personal touch and remember our loved ones
we have lost to the disease.
I have battled ovarian cancer; can I register as a survivor? Only
breast cancer survivors are allowed to register as survivors for the
Komen Central Georgia Race for the Cure®. All of the net funds raised
through this event go towards research, screening, outreach, and
treatment of breast cancer.
Does running in this race qualify me for the marathon? Can I get my official time? No,
we are not timing our participants this year. A clock will be
available at the Finish line so you may take note of your time.
Will awards be given? Join us at 10:00 a.m. to announce the following winners:
- Top three overall breast cancer survivors
- Top three overall males
- Top three overall females
